HELICOPTER NETWORK

Helicopters have the advantage of linking inaccessible areas particularly in the hills and ensuring comfortable and short journeys over difficult terrain, which would otherwise take a long time by road. The usage of helicopter by the general public in the tourism industry is growing, with the increased awareness among masses about utility of helicopters for tourism purposes in the form of convenience, time saving etc

Inkel has done feasibility study for development of Helicopter Service Network in Kerala.

Helicopters provide improved connectivity between various points and enable to reach out remote places faster. Kerala with its far flung tourist destination is an ideal place to set up helicopter network service to link the tourist spots. Currently the connectivity between the various tourist destinations is through rail and road. The National Highways and the State Highways function as the main arteries, but the nature based tourism products of the State are often located away from this primary network of roads. Road connections to some of the tourist destination in Kerala are poorly maintained, and many tourits avoid visiting such places in order to save time and effort.

The proposed helicopter service network primarily aims to cater to the high value tourists travelling between various tourists destinations. Kerala has been divided into 3 circuits and the project intends to link up tourists destination in these three circuits. Cochin is the Central Hub (Heliport) to base the operations with 18 helipads all over Kerala in all the districts.
