AROOR-EDAPALLY ELEVATED BYPASS

Kochi has over the years emerged as the commercial and industrial capital of Kerala. It has a world class port and an international airport that link it to many major cities worldwide. But inefficient or unscientific planning and poorly constructed roads are the bane of this great city. Widening of existing roads is not an easy task since delays in land acquisition hinders road development. The possibility of having a bypass is entwined in non-availability of sufficient land, escalating acquisition cost and delays in implementation. An elavated bypass , therefore, appears to be the best solution.
Inkel has made feasibility study of developing an elavated bypass connecting Aroor and Edapally, over the existing 17 km NH bypass road, as an obvious solution to ease traffic congestion and reduce traffic delays particularly at intersections. The elevated bypass suits best to the geographical and topological speciality of the region. It will be a four-lane divided, high speed, access controlled, taking off from the existing bypass road before Aroor junction and touching down at Edapally. With an annual traffic growth of 10% in Kochi, the elevated road bypass is expected to have a huge traffic potential. No major land acquisition for the construction of the evalated corridor is expected. The proposed Elevated Road Bypass is expected to relieve the current traffic snarls and shall cater to the through traffic by providing faster movement on the bypass stretch.

Expected economic benefits of the elevated bypass would be in the form of savings in journey time for vehicles, savings in Vehicle Operating Cost due to reduction in level of congestion, benefits from reduced fuel consumption, etc.
