SOUTH OVERBRIDGE- Ernakulam

Sahodaran Ayyappan Road popularly known as SA Road is an important arterial of Kochi city that run in east-west direction. The road connects the Foreshore road in the west and Vytilla Junction in the east. The road crosses the main railway lines over an existing 2 lane bridge. Where the bridge ends, the road meets with two important roads viz. Chittoor Road at Valanjambalam Junction and M.G Road at Medical Trust Junction. As these two junctions are heavily built up, further widening is practically impossible.
The ever increasing vehicular traffic on existing road systems in Ernakulam South necessitates a 4 Lane Railway Overbridge (RoB).

INKEL conducted the technical feasibility study for a new 4-lane RoB in place of the existing old RoB and provision for extending the bridge as an elevated road to cross Valanjambalam Junction and Medical Trust Junction. A preliminary environmental screening study and social impact study were also performed to ascertain the baseline environmental and socioeconomic characteristics. Three options were evaluated. The approximate cost of construction was also analysed and various options were ranked based on selected parameters.
