Alappuzha is the nerve centre of Kerala's famous Coir industry. Coconut husks are beaten into fibre for making beautiful mats and other coir products. Both men and women are actively involved in the production of Coir. Coir Industry enjoys the status as the largest Cottage Industry in the State.

INKEL has prepared a Detailed Project Report for setting up a Coir Machine Manufacturing Factory and related infrastructure facilities at two plots of land at Sanadanam Ward, Alappuzha and Coirfed Warehouse at Chungam. All the major requirements of the industry for its revival have been considered and validated by consulting with industry experts, through primary survey, discussions with Government officials and other stakeholders, based on which a list of machines to be manufactured has been finalised.
